Laura Rowe-Soto was born on February 1, 1970 in Plymouth, Michigan. She began to play the violin at age five and was trained with the Suzuki Method, which emphasizes learning to play by ear. She continued her studies throughout college and earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees at the University of Michigan. Before joining the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, Laura was a member of the Grant Park Symphony in Chicago and the Columbus Symphony in Ohio. She joined the DSO in 1995 as Assistant Concertmaster and held that position for 16 years. Aside from her professional career, Laura enjoys spending time with her family and close friends. She often spends time at her parents' ranch in Canton and is awed by curious encounters with her parents' three llamas, whom they keep as pets. Laura loves to travel and is planning her third trip to Alaska, which keeps her going back because of its grandeur and beauty.
