Baiba Skride, a Latvian native, was born into a musical family in Riga where she first began her studies. In 1995, Skride was accepted into the Conservatory of Music and Theatre in Rostock, and subsequently won the First Prize of the Queen Elisabeth Competition in Brussels in 2001. Skride has since appeared with prestigious orchestras such as the Sinfonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunk, Tonhalle Orchester Zürich, Orchestre de Paris, Philharmonia Orchestra, and the Sydney Symphony. Her US appearances include the Philadelphia Orchestra, Houston Symphony, Cleveland Symphony Orchestra, Boston Symphony Orchestra, and the Cincinnatti Symphony Orchestra. Skride currently plays the Stradivarius ‘’Ex Baron Feilitzsch’’ violin (1734) on loan.
